Stop optimizing ads for form fills. Feed Google your closed deals.

Optimizing to raw leads teaches the algorithm to find you more of the wrong people. The single change — offline conversion import — that fixes most underperforming ad accounts.

Most underperforming ad accounts share one root cause, and it isn't the copy, the bids or the keywords. It's the signal. They optimize toward form fills — and a form fill is not a customer.

The algorithm learns what you feed it

Google's bidding is a machine that finds more of whatever you tell it is valuable. Tell it a form submission is the goal, and it will get very good at finding people who submit forms: tyre-kickers, price-shoppers, bots, the merely curious. The volume looks great. The pipeline doesn't move.

You optimized for the proxy, so the machine optimized for the proxy.

Feed it the real outcome

The fix is to close the loop: import your closed deals — or at least qualified, sales-accepted leads — back into Google as the conversion it optimizes toward. Now the machine is hunting for people who look like your actual customers, not people who look like form-fillers.

  • Track properly: GA4 plus server-side events so the data survives ad blockers and browser changes.
  • Import offline conversions: push CRM outcomes (qualified, booked, closed) back with values.
  • Optimize to value, not count: a smaller number of the right leads beats a flood of the wrong ones.

What changes when you do

In client accounts, feeding closed-deal data back to Google routinely moves performance more than any creative test — because it corrects the objective, not the execution. Cost-per-lead often rises slightly while cost-per-customer falls, which is the trade every business actually wants.

Clicks that never become enquiries aren't a reporting line. They're a defect in the signal. Fix the signal, and the same budget starts buying customers instead of form fills.
