Do you need a Xiaohongshu business account? An honest guide for Singapore brands

What a Xiaohongshu enterprise account (企业号) unlocks, what it costs you in effort, and when a lighter start is smarter — for businesses outside China.

For most brands doing Xiaohongshu seriously, yes — you want a verified enterprise account (企业号). It unlocks official branding, analytics, customer messaging, paid tools and a store. But you don't always need it on day one, and setting one up from outside China has real friction. Here's the honest version.

What a business account unlocks

A verified enterprise account (企业号) is the official brand presence on Xiaohongshu. It gives you:

  • Verified identity — a badge that signals you're the real, official brand, not a fan or reseller.
  • Analytics — data on how your notes perform in search and feed, so you can optimise.
  • Customer messaging — a proper channel to answer enquiries and route them onward.
  • Paid tools — access to 聚光 (Aurora), Xiaohongshu's ad platform, to amplify proven content.
  • Store (optional) — the ability to sell directly on-platform, where it fits your model.

If Xiaohongshu is going to be a real channel for you, these matter — especially messaging and analytics, which turn activity into enquiries you can measure.

What it costs you (the honest part)

Setting up an enterprise account as a business outside China isn't a two-minute signup:

  • Verification requires business documentation and, typically, a verification fee.
  • Overseas / cross-border setup has extra steps depending on your entity and where you operate.
  • Ongoing effort — an official account that sits empty looks worse than none. It only pays off if you feed it consistent, native content.

This is why we handle verification and setup as part of our Xiaohongshu Marketing service — the paperwork is where a lot of brands stall.

When a lighter start is smarter

You don't have to lead with a full enterprise account. Sometimes the right first move is:

  • Validate demand first — seed a batch of KOC content and check whether people are actually searching your category before you invest in the full account and store. (See KOC vs KOL on Xiaohongshu.)
  • Prove the content works — get a few notes ranking in search, then formalise with the verified account and paid amplification.

The mistake is the reverse order: spending on verification and a store before you've confirmed anyone is looking.

The decision, simply

  • Set up the enterprise account now if you're committed to Xiaohongshu as a channel and want messaging, analytics and paid from the start.
  • Start lighter if you're still validating whether the demand is there — then upgrade once content proves it.

Either way, the account is a means, not the point. What matters is whether your notes surface when Chinese-speaking consumers search your category — the framing we cover in Xiaohongshu marketing in Singapore, explained.
